Healthy Fashion

4:13:00 PM

I wanted to try something new today and talk about incorporating one of the new health trends. There are a few wristbands out there for people who want to be more active like the Nike Fuelband, Fitbit, and Jawbone. I'm sure there are more out there but those are the ones I know about. I recently got the Nike Fuelband, because it was free and who can turn down free!? My only issue at first was how can I still be stylish while wearing this wristband 24/7 and that is when they showed me the white ice version which is sort of a milky see through color. I pair it with bracelets or my chunky watch and it actually looks pretty good.

This is how I usually style my fuelband; nice and simple. As a person who likes to try new ways to be healthier and take better care of my body I really liked the idea of setting a goal of activity points per day. It was something I could control so I didn't go over board and sort of a high five to myself at the end of the day when I reached my goal. I also like that you can track everything on your phone as well to see your progress and even compete with friends. I am a very competitive person so that was another plus for me to get me more active.

I also liked how some of these other people paired their fuelbands with other accessories. So if you are looking to motivate yourself to get a little more active per day I would definitely suggest a fitness wristband especially since you can still rock them in style!

Mom Closet Shopping

7:00:00 AM

Not saying that other moms aren't stylish but my mom has been pretty darn on point with fashion for as long as I can remember. Yes there have been some popular things that she probably shouldn't have tried but either way she has definitely kept up with the times. That has been sort of a battle with me and my mother because there are things that I think are horrid and ugly but my mom is like its in and trendy! The one thing I can say has been a blessing is that this woman will never throw things away. I mean never. She has once or twice handed things down to a family member and what not, but if she still remotely likes it, its not leaving her closet. The only exception to that rule is if I like it. I snagged these high waisted shorts from my mom's closet that she has had since the 80's. They fit perfectly and she just couldn't say no to me, even though she slightly hinted at giving it back to her once she's lost some weight.

Blazer: Banana Republic, Top: Papaya, Shorts: Vintage Levi's, Tights: Urban Outfitters, Shoes: Gap, Earrings: Givenchy, Ring: Asos, Bracelet: Loopsway, Watch: Michael Kors, Bow: DIY

I had a bit of fun adding gold accessories and even tied up a piece of gold ribbon and pinned it behind my hair bun! Go big or go home right??!!

Double Trouble

9:28:00 AM

Another win for the weather over the weekend. I swear it keeps doing this up and down, up and down pattern with the weather. The weekends will be pretty then the weekdays will be super cold! I am hoping after this week DC will finally continue to get warmer not cling on to this super long cold front we have been having. Since it was warm this past Saturday yet not hot enough for me to go bare legged I decided to try wearing my knee length socks over my nylons with, wait for it, SHORTS! Not saying everyone will like it but I didn't mind it and worse my fashion experiment with pride.

Blazer: Marshalls, Top: PacSun, Shorts: PacSun, Tights: Target, Socks: Urban Outfitters, Shoes: Gap, Glasses: Polaroid, Watch: Michael Kors

Another new thing I tried was a half up do fishtail braid. I took me a moment to get it together and to not mess up but I think for my first try it looks pretty good. Did you try anything new over the weekend!?

Drop Waist Mess

7:00:00 AM

I don't think I look like a mess but it sounded good with the title. Either way how is everyone's week going? Its pretty much going the way my outfits are, a little on the darker side. The weather has been cloudy and gloomy and I just really, really want Spring to finally arrive. At least its not ridiculously cold out which is why I feel like I can get away with a dress and tights, but really I had no choice because it was laundry day. I also tried something new and got a drop waist dress. I don't exactly like the waist too much since it fits like a shift dress but with pleats at the bottom. So of course I threw a belt on it, but also a super long cardigan!

Dress: Marshalls, Cardigan: Gifted, Belt: Shabby Apple, Boots: Gifted

I think I look very Harry Potter-esq and in my book that equals AWESOME! Hope your week is going by well and that your weekend plans are even better.

Monochrome Monday

7:00:00 AM

Hello and happy Monday, or lets be honest as happy as it can get. To fight the monday blues I sometimes, if I'm feeling up to it, dress up a bit for work. It gives me a boost throughout the day knowing I am in a super cute outfit and of course its also nice when you get a compliment here and there. Also, I definitely pulled a dress repeat but up'ed the anti and added a collard top underneath. I think I pulled of office chic very well!

Dress: Jessica Simpson, Top: Forever 21, Tights: Target, Shoes: Target

Don't be fooled by the smiles! I was exhausted and just wanted to crawl back into bed and call out sick, but the bills need to get paid. Oh mondays why are you so hard?

American Eagle

Navy Ships

7:00:00 AM

So when it is nice out I like to go out by the waterfront to walk on the boardwalk and the naval yard. In that area is a water feature that has all kinds of navy ships which, of course being the navy kid, I find super interesting. I guess you can say my sense of interesting things is very eclectic. Since it is still considered too cold to turn on the fountains and water features I was able to get up close to the ships on display!

Jackets: 1. Banana Republic 2. American Eagle, Top: Ann Taylor, Pants: PacSun, Shoes: Gifted, Necklace: Riff Raff, Sunglasses: Borrowed

At first the weather was not cooperating and was super chilly with ever colder wind chills, but as the day went on it got very warm. I just can't wait for it to be constantly that nice. COME ON SPRING!!

Urban Chic

7:00:00 AM

This weekend was another full of amazing and beautiful days. On saturday my beau and I went to go see the American Cool exhibit at the Portrait Gallery Museum. It was as they put it so "cool"! It had people from Audrey Hepburn to Jimi Hendrix to Jay-Z. It was so fun to go and it was super interesting. I suggest if you are in the area that you take a little time out and go see the exhibit. You will not be sorry!

Hoodie: Hollister, Jacket: American Eagle, Jeans: PacSun, Shoes: Jessica Simpson

My favorite part of the museum is the really large atrium smack dab in the middle of the building. It is full of gorgeous flowers and water features. The sunlight from the day just fills up the entire area! Though don't be fooled, it was still a little nippy out which is why I decided on my hoodie and jacket combo. It was so comfortable but still had some edge to it.

Sweatshirt DIY's I Want to Try

12:44:00 PM

So I don't know about you but I am not the person who is constantly doing DIY projects and if I do try one I don't usually succeed. I would probably be that person who has the Pinterest fail picture up on Facebook. Though I always say I want to do that or I am going to try that, I either can't find the ingredients/supplies I need or I give up entirely because it looks too complicated or I forget. Recently my friend, Dana, had found this sweatshirt DIY that I really, really want to do and because she wants to do it too I think I have a better chance at actually getting this done. Also, it reminded me of another sweatshirt DIY I wanted to try and I think I am going to add it to our day of crafting. Here are the two DIYs that maybe you'd like to try yourself!

1. Sequins Word Sweatshirt DIY compliments of A Beautiful Mess

Supplies:
-sweatshirt
-sequin trim
-needle and thread
-fabric glue
-marker

Step One: First, choose a cursive handwritten font (I used this one) and print your phrase the size you want it to appear on your sweatshirt.

Step Two: Use scissors or an X-Acto knife to cut out your letters to make a template for your sequins. Place it where you want your phrase to be and use a marker to trace the middle of your phrase.

Step Three: Place some fabric glue on the left side of the marker outline and set your sequin trim on top of the glue (you want the whole phrase to be outlined with one row of sequins when you're done).

Step Four: Once you have one row of sequins completed, use your fabric glue to place another line of glue on the right side of your marker line. Take your sequin trim, make a U-turn at the end of your phrase, and trace your phrase backwards by placing the trim on the glue (you'll want the rows to overlap a bit). When you get back to the beginning, trim your excess and fold your end sequin under the second-to-last sequin (on both the beginning and end of your strand) and glue in place.

Step Five: Once the glue is dry, use a needle and thread to secure your phrase to the sweatshirt by sewing every third or fourth sequin to the actual sweatshirt. This extra step gives the phrase some added durability in the wash.

Note: Depending on your phrase and letters you choose, you may get to a spot where you have to backtrack over the same spot to get to the next letter (like I had to on part of my "O"). Just glue your row on top of itself if you have to backtrack so you don't end up more than two rows wide in that spot.

2. Geek Sweatshirt compliments of my imagination!

Supplies:
1.Varsity Letter Iron Ons
2. Sweatshirt
3. Iron
4. Need & Thread

Step One: Pencil in where you want your letters to go. I haven't chosen yet if I want them to go across my chest or sideways up the sweater, but again this DIY is completely up to you.

Step Two: Iron on the letters into the places you have mapped out for yourself. Follow the instructions that come with your pack of iron on letters. Each pack is different and sometimes you may have to hold down for a longer or shorter period of time.

Step Three: This step is optional and depends on you. I want to double make sure that the letters will not move, curl or fall off so I am sewing down the sides of each letter using the whip stitch method.

Step Four: Enjoy your new sweater!

1:13:00 PM

With the cold winter weather that keeps persisting I have done nothing outside the confines of my apartment except when forced to walk the babes. Now that doesn't mean on this snow day off work that I haven't gotten plenty of time to browse around and daydream of spring and the clothes that will be coming out. I already have a wishlist started!

1. Dress: Banana Republic

2. Top: J Crew, Skirt: J Crew

3. Skirt: Anthropologie

4. Skirt: J Crew, Shoes: J Crew
