Statement Coats

5:28:00 PM

So my secret to looking like I tried to dress nicely for the arctic weather and yet not really trying at all is a statement coat. I recently have been on a buying spree for a couple pieces that are both fashionable and warm. This usually results in paying more for the quality because you can rely on the piece lasting for a while. Usually I make sure that it is made with a high percentage of wool and then I look at how long it is to see if I am ok with how much or how little it covers. Lets not forget about the shape though! That is super important especially when you are a petite but still shapely person and clothes that properly fit can be nearly impossible to find! Here are my suggestions for some awesome statement jackets.

Coats from left to right: Banana Republic, American Eagle, J Crew

I love these for their color, pattern and texture; not to mention how warm the are going to keep you! Hopefully you are staying warm out there because the things I see on the news is screaming the nearing of the apocalypse! Stay safe my friends.

Professional or Business Casual?

7:04:00 PM

This past weekend I saw an old college friend post about needed model extras for a photoshoot and I thought to myself "What do I have to lose?". After reaching out to her about if she needed any more people she let me know where and when to meet up and what to wear. Professional attire can sometimes be a drag for me if it a business has strict rules about what you can or cannot wear. I thank my lucky stars every day that I can add a bit of my fashion forward pieces in with my business pieces at my current job. So that was my exact thought process when I picked out my outfit.

My instincts must have been right because everyone really liked my outfit. The photoshoot was super fun and I met some amazing people. Hopefully they need me again one day!!

How to Survive Snomagedon!

8:00:00 AM

So the weather here in DC went from no snow and 60 degrees to estimated 10 inches and 20 degrees in one day. As everyone knows I was not going out into that weather likely. So this morning I made sure that 1. My office was opened or closed and 2. Once I found out it was open that I prepared my outfit to ensure my warmth and survival. Some of you are going to think I'm a super crazy girl who is over exaggerating but sadly my body is a perpetual freezer unless it is 80 degrees or higher out.

Jacket: North Face, Hat: Aeropostale, Sweater: JC Penny, Pants: Aeropostale, Boots: LL Bean

I was being photobombed by my dogs so I just decided they should be in the next picture. I had on not only what you see on the outside, but fleece leggings underneath my jeans, a tank top and shirt under my sweater and two pairs of socks on. The art of super layering! Be safe out there and keep warm.

Winter Peplum

5:40:00 PM

Hello everyone! Sorry for being away last week. I caught a horrible sinus cold that had me bed ridden for a couple days. I thought should probably take some time off to rest and recuperate. Winter is the worst for me. I either too hot because I'm wearing everything in my closet or I'm way too cold because I thought "Oh I don't need that scarf". On the days I actually get it right I usually end up plagued with some crazy infectious disease that I can't get rid of for a couple weeks. At least I get to enjoy that one perfect moment of being just warm enough and enjoying myself outdoors.

Sweater: Banana Republic, Top: JC Penny, Pants: Levi's, Shoes: Gifted, Jacket: American Eagle

Before I feel sick and bedridden I was able to wear this adorable outfit to a birthday party near Dupont and I had a blast. So stay bundled up out there everyone and I hope for everyone's sake they do not get the cold I got.

The Midus Touch

4:56:00 PM

Gold on gold on gold!!! Today was just that kind of day where I wear only two colors in my outfit. Also, I noticed shortly after I arrived at work that I am coincidentally wearing my alma mater colors. At least they weren't bad colors right? Anyways, I hope everyone is surviving this polar vortex weather we are all having, especially in Chicago. I have been seeing a lot of photos of the crazy weather and the awesome tricks people have been doing with water, like frozen bubbles and hot water into snow. I would attempt to try some of the things I saw, but it is not nearly as cold in DC as it is in Chicago, but I am not complaining.

Top: Marshalls, Pants: Anne Taylor, Shoes: Target, Necklace: Forever 21, Watch: Michael Kors

I tried the top tucked in and not tucked in to see which I liked better. My vote is definitely tucked in just because the print on the pants is so cute and I have to show them off! I was super excited today to wear my new Michael Kors watch that I got over Christmas. I love it; the size, the color and even the crystals that line the face of the watch. If you are looking for a new watch I definitely recommend this one.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!!!

5:02:00 PM

I just want all the shoes in the world!! I'm on the look out for boots and work flats, but every time I go out to look for some I end up wanting everything, but walking away with nothing. This is my curse!

I think I have a problem here! I know I've been able to at least narrow down my favorites to the above shoes, but still I'm not rich and cannot have all the things I want. Darn you universe why do I love out of budget things!?

New Year Resolutions I Won't Keep

11:31:00 AM

For all of us who love to indulge in the New Years Resolution planning and hoping that you will keep them this time, here is my list of things I am MOST definitely going to try to keep but will not hold myself to any promises. Lets face it, I probably will not keep any of these for very long.

1. Eat healthier. Maybe try juicing/smoothies to help get more vegetables and fruits in the diet.

2. Save more money every month.

3. Shop for better quality instead of getting more for cheaper. This way my clothes will last longer and save me money and time in the long run.

4. Get out of the house more often to experience something new every weekend.

5. Go to the gym. (I am kind of laughing at myself for this because its not go to the gym MORE OFTEN, its just go to the gym, period.)

6. Find that oh so elusive brand of face cleanser and stick to it! No more bouncing around and hoarding all kind of cleansers, masks and moisturizers. Clean out the stuff that doesn't work and stick with the stuff that does.

7. Stop hoarding clothes! I know every year I try and get rid of things that don't fit or are super old and falling apart. Though I want to try and get rid of the clothes that I hold onto because I have emotional attachment, but never wear.

8. Figure out a way to take leaps toward my dream, not steps. It is time to take my leap of faith and push for what I want out of life instead of always being careful. No one got to where they are in life without taking some risks here and there.

9. Read so much more! I have started to read a bit more than I used to, but I want to increase that number exponentially. I love books and I love how they expand my imagination and let me continue to see the wonders of the world and life.

10. Last, but not least, do more things that make me happy even if they aren't exactly smart. Last year I got a puppy and though it was hard, tedious work that boy makes me super happy every single day. I cannot imagine my life without my little Zeus. Not to leave out my main man Louie, because I love him just as much.

I like to try and make a list of at least ten resolutions, because in my crazy mind I feel like I have a better chance of keeping one of them. Happy New Year everyone!!!
